The shaped disc refers to the new type of disc, whose disc surface area is less than the standard disc in 120 mm and 80 mm. it can have different shapes but its logic indexes are compatible to the standard disc in the 120 mms and the 80 mms. The shaped disc of the earlier period is produced by high-pressure cutting the standard disc in 120 mm, but with technical progress, currently most shaped discs can be made by stamping-technique of one-shot formation. Loosely saying, no matter what shape a disc has, all discs of any shapes can be clamped by upper and lower supports of mechanical motor installed on a playback device or a computer CD driver, and enabled to rotate in high velocity so as to realize the purpose of normal playing, as soon as it is secured that the data capacity of a disc is not less than 40MB, the centre of gravity of the disc is located right in its centre, and the disc can be located correctly and kept in balance. However, it’s necessary to point out that the motor noise will differ when different shapes of discs are playing. Generally speaking, the closer to a round shape a disc is, the less noise it makes.
